This week sees the legal formation of Digital Jersey Limited, a new independent organisation set up to represent all digital industries in Jersey and to promote the Island externally as a centre for digital business. The digital sector includes areas such as e-commerce, information and communications technology (ICT) services and data hosting. The organisation’s ultimate aim will be to create additional employment opportunities in this sector for local people.

Governance of this organisation will be through an independent board, and to this end Digital Jersey is looking to recruit a Chair. The post will be advertised locally this week. Following this, it is planned that recruitment of a Chief Executive and Non-Executive Directors of Digital Jersey will begin. The recruitment process will be extensive, with a view to getting the best available people to run the new entity.

As part of Digital Jersey, the Chair, CEO and Board will have a significant role working with Government and the private sector to facilitate understanding of the digital economy and the opportunities it brings. It will look to develop the education and skills agenda as well as promoting legislative guidance and providing strategic direction. Although initially funded by Government, the entity will remain wholly independent and will seek external sources of funding in the future.

Once operational, Digital Jersey will develop an initial one-year plan to provide foundations for development, followed by a two- to five-year strategic overview.

Senator Alan Maclean, Minister for Economic Development, commented:

“I am very pleased that the recruitment of the Chair for Digital Jersey is about to commence. Recruitment for the CEO will also begin shortly, and the remainder of the Board will be put in place as quickly as possible.

“We are looking for progressive, dynamic people with expertise and interest in the digital industry who will contribute to the development and implementation of an effective strategy for the growth of this whole sector in Jersey.”
