Digital Jersey’s Annual Review 2018

Digital Jersey (DJ) held its 2018 Annual Review today and the growth in the sector was reflected by the increase in the audience attending. Around 270 packed into Screen One of Cineworld to hear the highlights of 2017 and plans for 2018 – a doubling on the previous year.

The audience was shown the Digital Jersey Xchange (DJX) branding, for a new research centre focused on the latest Internet of Things technology. DJX will be a key tool in the upcoming launch of an off-island campaign called Sandbox Jersey, which will promote the island as a one-stop-shop for technology development and testing.

Other 2018 plans include:

  • Ensuring Jersey has the right environment for all digital businesses to set up, including the availability of business and staff licences, supportive Government policies and funding.
  • Continuing to develop digital skills and work with other partners to grow career opportunities, including prioritising digital skills development within financial services.
  • Supporting the ongoing implementation of the Digital Health and Care Strategy for Jersey
  • Creating a Fintech Sandbox for Jersey with JFSC.

CEO of Digital Jersey, Tony Moretta, said “Looking to the future Jersey needs focus, investment and prioritisation to place Digital firmly alongside other main pillars of economic growth such as Finance and Tourism. Working with our partners in industry and government, we will ensure that the digital sector will deliver rewarding career paths and be of great benefit to our island community.

2017 achievements included:

The Annual Review audience also heard from Special Adviser, Dave Birch about the opportunities in blockchain & bots, from Health and Social Services Deputy Chief Executive, Jason Turner for an update on the Digital Health and Care Strategy, and from IoT and smart cities expert, Joe Dignan.
