Digital Jersey welcomed the Estonian Ambassador to the UK, Lauri Bambus, to The Digital Hub during his visit to Jersey on 17th November 2016.

The visit looked to strengthen the island’s relationship with Estonia on digital sector development, following a number of Digital Jersey visits to Estonia and their UK embassy in recent years.

During his time in Jersey, the Ambassador visited the offices of Calligo (who recently attracted a $20m investment), had a tour of The Digital Hub and met a number of digital business leaders before discussing Digital Jersey’s future vision and how Jersey and Estonia could work together to deliver this.

Mr Bambus’ visit follows the recent appointment of the Digital Policy Adviser for the Government of Estonia, Siim Sikkut, as Digital Jersey’s Special Adviser. Mr Sikkut’s transferrable knowledge and experience will support the planning of future digital policy and strategic initiatives for Jersey.

Tony Moretta, CEO of Digital Jersey, commented:

“It was an honour to host his excellency, Ambassador Lauri Bambus as part of his trip to Jersey, and I am very grateful he made time in his busy schedule to meet with Digital Jersey and our Members. Mr Bambus was highly complementary of our island’s ambitions and was very interested to learn about our digital sector. This is hugely positive as Estonia is a world-leading example of a digitally enabled jurisdiction, and is a country we should aspire to emulate. I hope that the Ambassador enjoyed his time in Jersey as much as I enjoyed my visit to Estonia in September. I feel that both visits built on what is already a strong relationship, and I hope this results in continued collaboration, leading to opportunities that will benefit us both.”
