Total Billing Solutions
When the decision was made to computerise Jersey’s manual process of managing patient records, the largest supplier of Clinical systems and Connected Health, EMIS Health, was invited to supply their leading clinical software to the Island.
A supplier to NHS, the company did not have a Finance or Billing module within their software for the GP surgeries to manage their income and financial workflow processes. This module was crucial for Jersey as all of Primary Care is patient pay and Government co-payment.
Following the introduction of EMIS on-island, the Director of what is now Total Billing Solutions, had a conversation with his GP about software development around managing income which sparked the process to build what is now known as MediBooks, the only standalone and NHS Digital approved clinically integrated Medical Billing system.
Once the software had been rolled out to four GP surgeries, then sold to the remaining GP surgeries in Jersey and then Guernsey and Alderney, the product, now integrated with EMIS Health, was explored further afield in the UK. Today, the product has been developed into a new ‘MediBooks Web” version to suit the UK market and further integration has been undertaken with TPP SystmOne, the second largest supplier of NHS GP clinical systems.
MediBooks deployed its software across numerous NHS and private practices in GP surgeries, occupational health & private practices with further development ongoing to deploy into Community, Palliative and Secondary Care settings with opportunities overseas such as the Gulf region.
As of February 1st 2017 the product was “white labelled” as “EMIS Billing” and an exclusive deal was reached with the largest UK supplier of connected software and services to resell and massively scale across the UK. With over 50% market share and 10,000 healthcare clients, this is a massive opportunity for the business and the reputation of Jersey as a place where world-class innovation happens.
Danny Bannister, CEO at Total Solutions Group, says:
“Jersey was the reason the software was initially developed and proved the ideal setting to develop and evolve the product within a “walled garden”. With a new Jersey Hospital coming online and the Jersey Healthcare Economy being so interconnected and accessible, this should prove the ideal location for corporates and start-ups alike to test their own products and look for innovative ways to develop products to help Jersey “connect healthcare” which can then be launched and rolled out into the NHS and beyond.
Our product is proof that, when given the opportunity to innovate and solve problems as well as continued support from Digital Jersey and Jersey Government, it is possible to create world-class solutions and secure C level relationships with leaders in the field. I would encourage others to seek counsel from Digital Jersey and ask how they can support you in your ambitions.”
