The Head of Strategy plays a key role on the Digital Jersey leadership team, responsible for helping to grow the digital sector in Jersey by setting the organisations strategy and driving buy-in across industry and government.

This wide-ranging position provides an opportunity to work with senior level representatives from industry, government, regulators, and industry bodies, to support the development and implementation of a digital agenda for Jersey. The person appointed will be required to develop the organisations relationships with these key stakeholders in order to progress Digital Jersey’s strategic objectives. The position would suit someone with experience of developing company/industry strategy, with the ability to initiate new policy thinking and strong stakeholder management skills.

The post holder will need to have the propensity to quickly develop a good understanding of the opportunities and challenges in the use of tech in Digital Jersey’s focus sectors.

The candidate will be responsible for providing objective and data-driven research that guides Digital Jersey’s activity. For this reason, we require someone who can demonstrate knowledge of, and an interest in, the digital sector and the key issues it faces. Digital Jersey has set an ambitious 5 year strategy (see 5 Year Strategic Plan | Digital Jersey) and the postholder will play a leading role in delivering this.

This role requires someone who has the communication skills, confidence and ambition to grow their own profile and that of Digital Jersey.

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer

Key responsibilities:

  • Ownership of our 5 Year Strategy
  • Represent the digital sector and contribute to key industry and government working groups
  • Lead Digital Jersey research initiatives
  • Support Government policy development by responding to public consultations and Scrutiny reviews
  • Bring key stakeholders together behind a common digital vision, including driving data and digital manifestos
  • Lead co-creation strategy events and workshops
  • Develop international partnerships and reputation building by brokering relationships with other tech hubs
  • Write public and private funding bids and other business cases to aid Digital Jersey activity
  • Support the continued growth of the Digital Jersey Academy by aligning skills development with economic objectives.
  • Collect, interrogate and validate key performance metrics of Digital Jersey activity and the broader digital economy.
  • Line management responsibility for the Research and Insights Officer
  • Government Department and ALO relationship management – in conjunction with the CEO and COO
  • Any other duties as required by the company from time to time

Other responsibilities:

  • Represent Digital Jersey at various functions and events and in the media
  • Other business support projects and tasks as required

Skills required:

  • A strong understanding of economic development
  • Aptitude for change and innovation, bringing new ideas and driving initiatives
  • Ability to Interpret quantitative and qualitative data
  • Ability to plan strategically over a 2-3 year time span
  • Ability to analyse problems/issues, identifying patterns and recommending solutions
  • Ability to collaborate and co-create to deliver outcomes
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A track record of strong relationship management ability
  • Excellent communication written and verbal, with the ability to write persuasively and cohesively
  • Strong presentation skills
