The NED Role

Digital Jersey is seeking up to two dynamic and experienced Non-Executive Directors (NED) to join our board. As a NED, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic oversight and guidance to the organisation, helping to steer us during this pivotal time towards future success.

The successful candidates will be expected to commit to attending quarterly board meetings, a strategy day and various headline Digital Jersey Events with the possibility of additional ad hoc sessions as required. Furthermore, NEDs are required to contribute to the organisation’s work by participating in one or more sub-committees (by appointment of the board), which also typically meet on a quarterly basis. This remunerated appointment’s total anticipated time commitment is approximately 15 days per annum with additional remuneration for candidates that are appointed by the board to the Impact Jersey Steering Committee and as Chair of a sub-committee.

  • Gailina Liew – Senior Independent Director, Chair of Remuneration & Nomination Sub-Committee (will complete tenure by end of June 2025)
  • Robert Kirkby – Chair of Audit & Risk Sub-Committee, Chair of Impact Jersey Steering Committee
  • Professor Dame Wendy Hall DBE
  • Aaron Chatterley (will complete tenure by end of June 2025)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Strategic Advice and Guidance: Assist the CEO and executive team in developing and monitoring Digital Jersey’s Strategy.
  • Ensure Good Governance: Uphold corporate governance principles and best practices, providing effective oversight to the organisation.
  • Attend Regular Board Meetings: Attend in-person board meetings, which occur four times per annum, along with additional ad hoc meetings, contributing meaningful insights.
  • Foster Relationships: Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including government, businesses, and educators.
  • Act as an Ambassador: Promote Digital Jersey’s vision and values to a broad audience, enhancing its reputation and influence.
  • Champion Innovation: Support initiatives like Impact Jersey, promoting technological advancements and innovation.
  • Assist with Awareness Raising and Partnership Development: Contribute to the promotion of Digital Jersey and the development of strategic partnerships.
  • Sit on One or More Sub-Committees: Participate in one or more sub-committees as agreed with the rest of the Board of Directors.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Strategic Leadership:
  • Proven experience in developing and overseeing successful long-term organisational plans, especially in a digital or tech-focused environment.
  • Ability to anticipate future technology trends and their impact on Jersey.
  • Strong strategic-thinking skills to help guide the organisation towards achieving its long-term goals.
Governance and Oversight:
  • In-depth understanding of corporate governance principles and best practices.
  • Experience in guiding executive teams effectively.
Technology and Innovation Expertise:
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies which are relevant to Jersey’s digital goals.
  • Ability to support and champion innovative initiatives.
Problem-Solving Skills:
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve complex issues efficiently.
  • Experience in applying critical thinking to the development of effective solutions.
People Skills and Relationship Building:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to inspire a shared vision while collaborating effectively.
Desirable Experience:
  • Experience in the technology industry.
  • Familiarity with governance in a non-profit environment.
  • Experience working in a similar organisation.
  • Knowledge of Jersey’s economy, business environment, and regulatory landscape.
  • Awareness of the unique opportunities and challenges in Jersey’s digital sector.
