Digital Skills Courses (2021 - 2022) - Practical Coding Foundation

Fully funded as part of the Fiscal Stimulus Programme, our new Digital Skills Courses (2021-2022) Practical Coding Foundation, starts in September and comprises over 6 months.

Build the foundational skills required in a junior web development role. Whilst being skills-based, this course also delivers an understanding of the theory and reasoning behind the ‘how’. The course is based around the Microsoft Dot Net Core framework and libraries, encompassing HTML, CSS, C# and more.

Course breakdown

1. Understand how ‘the web’ actually works
2. Understand and describe current architectural patterns
3. Work with common tools and systems for editing code and Git based source control systems
4. Read, understand and write HTML
5. Apply CSS styling to HTML documents
6. Use simple JavaScript to manipulate elements in the web browser
7. Create a project in the Microsoft Dot Net Core framework
8. Write code in C# to implement interactive features
9. Create and understand simple SQL queries
10. Work on a project, in a team, using all the skills acquired during the course

Duration: 6 months September – February.

Meet the Tutor: Matt Chatterley

Matt Chatterley is an entrepreneur who has been working in technology for 20 years – with experience in software design and development covering a number languages, frameworks and industries. He is the owner of Codentia Ltd (code.je), CTO at HandsetExpert and founder of Trax.je. Over the last 8 years he has taught and mentored more than 200 students on the Digital Jersey Coding Programme – as well as taking several apprentices through their learning journeys working at code.je.
