Fundamentals of Digital Leadership Course with EY

This completely free 6-week course covers a range of subjects that will arm students with a set of practical, and highly in-demand digital skills, that they can apply to any future area of study or work.

Those completing the programme will be awarded a Certificate in Fundamentals of Digital Leadership.

The course consists of 5 webinars (60 min in duration), each taught by an industry expert, and 5 group work sessions that will teach the skill of collaborative online working. The course ends with a final online presentation where each group will pitch back their response to a challenge they will work on throughout the 6 weeks.

The course is taught by industry experts and is delivered via industry standard remote working tools (Zoom and Microsoft Teams). All costs for access to these platforms are sponsored and provided free of charge to students.

What do students need to attend this course?

Internet connection and access to a computer or laptop for the remote sessions.

Session 1: Digital in Perspective

This introductory session will take you through a range of real-world examples of how digital is shaping every aspect of our lives and the world we live in. Exploring every aspect of digital, students will get an exciting view of what is possible now and in the future and how we can build the future we want.

 Session 2: Solving Problems with Technology

This session will explore what we really mean by technology and how we can use it to solve problems. Exploring ideas like building tech teams, prototyping ideas and using technology to bring people together, this session help you understand what skills the leaders and entrepreneurs of the future need.

Session 3: Digital Design and Creative Problem Solving

This session introduces the core elements of design and creative thinking, showing that design isn’t just for designers. Students will explore practical techniques for solving problems as well as hands-on tools for solving creative challenges.

Session 3: Digital Design and Creative Problem Solving

This session will take you through a series of hands-on skills, tools and techniques you can use to promote your ideas, share your content, engage with an audience, get feedback, sell products and build communities.

Session 5: Online media production

This session will explore how we can use audio and video to tell stories online, and how this can help us achieve our business, political and personal goals. The session will take students through the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of video and audio (including podcasting) production.

  • The importance of storytelling and story structure in audio visual communication.
  • Recognising medium specificity; why we use different media to tell different stories.
  • Critical engagement with existing media.
  • Identifying your audience, their needs, and your mode of address/ format.
  • Content planning, calls to action and the importance of workflows in media production

Final session: “Staying Connected” Ideas Pitch

Each week, as well as attending a webinar, students will attend a peer group session to work on an idea on the topic of ‘Staying Connected’. Students can work on an idea for a business, social enterprise, video/podcast series or anything else that is connected to the topic. Interpretation of the topic is completely open, whether it’s an idea about staying connected to remote or elder people, business teams working together effectively, connecting groups of people with common interests, connecting together communities, or anything else, its all about using the technology students learnt about to come up with ideas and plans. Each group will pitch their ideas and get feedback from industry experts.
