THE ISLAND’S COVID-19 RESPONSE TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT JERSEY TECHWEEK

Posted: 18/09/2020

Actions by Jersey’s digital community to help the island respond to the coronavirus pandemic will be showcased as part of this year’s Jersey TechWeek which will also feature names from some of the world’s biggest tech brands.

The event, organised by Digital Jersey, will be delivered as a week-long online video feed, with multi-camera live programmes broadcast to a global audience this October.

It will highlight the very latest trends and developments for the industry, as well as sharing with the world all Jersey’s growing tech sector has to offer.

Guests include key figures from World Bank, Google and Microsoft.

The twice-daily sessions will include live demonstrations of technology, panel debates with world-leading experts, and insights into emerging tech trends – with fintech, artificial intelligence, digital health, creativity and how all things digital have helped drive Jersey’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic all part of the line-up.

Digital Jersey CEO Tony Moretta said: “Our first Jersey TechWeek 2018 remains a real highlight for me and we were determined that the show would go on in 2020, regardless of how Covid has forced us all to rethink the way we work. We know many people are a bit ‘webinared out’, but we will be bringing our week to life with punchy 2-hour sessions each half day with high production values that we know people in Jersey, and beyond our shores, will love.”

It all begins with a Digital Design Challenge on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October, where three £1,500 prizes are up for grabs. Then from Monday 19 to Friday 23 October, there will be one morning and one afternoon online session each day culminating in the launch of the Jersey TechAwards on the Friday afternoon.

Mr Moretta added: “Last time, hundreds of people packed our physical sessions. This time around, we’re able to do that in an even more creative and engaging way, and there’s no limit on who can look in, and indeed on where they are in the world. As a window on what’s relevant in the digital world, Jersey TechWeek 2020 really is the virtual place to be.”
