Professor Stephen Heppell to lead Inspirational Workshop at Digital Jersey Hub
Digital Jersey have partnered with the Jersey Child Care Trust (JCCT) to run an inspirational and educational workshop at the Digital Jersey Hub on 26th January, led by Professor Stephen Heppell, a member of both the Digital Jersey Board and the Digital Jersey Education and Skills Technical Action Group (TAG). The event will be open to those who care for or work in the early childhood sector and members of Digital Jersey.
The aim of the workshop, named “No such thing as too early”, is to inspire childcare practitioners, parents, and all who care for, educate, or work on behalf of young children, to adapt children’s learning through embracing new technologies. Professor Heppell will discuss children’s learning today and how developments in cognitive science have enabled us to understand more than we ever have before. He will also address in the workshop the importance of introducing children to new technologies from a young age.
Stephen Heppell is a professor at Bournemouth University. He is the chair for Learning Innovation at Universidad Camilo José Cela, in Madrid and he is also the chair of the UK Government's Education Technology Action Group (ETAG) advising on policy towards 2025. Stephen has worked on a range of projects globally, demonstrating effective change in education.
Fiona Vacher, Executive Director of JCCT commented: “I am thrilled that Stephen Heppell is coming to Jersey. It will be fantastic for him to share his personal insights to inspire those in the early childhood sector to make invaluable improvements to young children’s education in Jersey”.
Carla Harris, Director at Digital Jersey added: “Technology is revolutionising the ways in which young children learn and is changing their predispositions for learning. Today’s young children enter formal schooling expecting to learn with technology. There is also an abundance of research confirming that developmentally-appropriate technology supports young learners’ success in Preschool or Early Years (K-2) classroom. Stephen Heppell will share his extensive technology and educational experience, and showcase simple technologies, research and resources available for teachers and parents to navigate young children's digital world”.
Digital Jersey members must contact JCCT at email@example.com or 01534 629901 to register to attend. Priority will be given to childcare practitioners. JCCT will be charging £3.00 per person. The proceeds will enable them to provide additional CPD training for the sector.
