Digital Jersey in partnership with the Health and Social Services Department and the Primary Care Body has launched the Island’s strategy for ‘digitising’ its health and care system by 2025.

The Digital Health & Care Strategy, launched at the organisation’s 2016 Annual Review event, includes aims to ‘digitise’ the Island’s whole health and care sector so that the adoption of digital technologies can deliver benefits to patients, service-users and care professionals, whilst fostering economic growth.

The implementation of the strategy will facilitate digital integration in all areas of health and care, allowing both health professionals and patients to take advantage of technology that will improve health and care provision in Jersey. The strategy will contribute to Digital Jersey’s broader plans for 2017 by supporting innovation and promoting the Island as an internationally recognised centre for digital industries.

Key areas of focus for the Digital Health Strategy include:

  • Development of the Jersey Care Record, a secure universal online record of health that will improve access to records and interactions between health and care organisations, facilitating better decision-making.
  • Development of the Jersey Health Database, which will allow the sector to improve how care is planned, delivered and managed through population data analysis.
  • Development of a local Digital Health supplier hub to promote local capability and eventually export Jersey’s Digital Health innovation.

Digital Jersey and its key stakeholders, which include the States of Jersey Health and Social Services Department, the Jersey Primary Care Body and prominent members of the wider local digital industry, commissioned the strategy and will work in collaboration to oversee its delivery.

Tony Moretta, CEO of Digital Jersey, commented:

“I’m pleased to be able to share our vision for Digital Health in Jersey. This is a key priority for the Island as it will go on to create positive benefits for all Islanders in many ways over the course of the next decade. The Digital Health & Care Strategy has been devised with patients, health care professionals and our overall economy in mind. It will deliver a world-class connected healthcare model we can be proud of and provide a roadmap for nurturing and integrating our own future Digital Health start-ups, whilst encouraging off-Island businesses to come and use Jersey as a testbed for innovative new products.”

Jason Turner, Director of Finance and Information of the Health and Social Services Department, said:

"The launch of the Digital Health & Care Strategy is a very positive development for the provision of health and social care in Jersey – something that will benefit all Islanders at some point in their lives. We are delighted that Digital Jersey have coordinated the development of the strategy. Through their involvement we have been able to produce an Island-wide vision that will help deliver connected healthcare for Jersey."

Dr Nigel Minihane, Chairman of the Primary Care Body, said:

“This is a critical infrastructure step for clinicians to allow ‘data to be wrapped around the patient’.  It facilitates the other health strategies prioritising right care, right place, right time, minimizing repetition and errors and enhancing patient experience.”
