Being a digital mentor offers many growth benefits outside of simply feeling good about helping others; it is more than the transfer of advice, knowledge and insights.
A good mentor will actively listen, ask thought-provoking questions, share relevant knowledge and expertise, and provide constructive feedback; all whilst displaying positivity and enthusiasm.
Strengthen leadership skills
Being a mentor will help develop your ability to motivate others and provide the opportunity to sharpen your emotional radar by working with people outside of your usual work environment.
Interactions with a mentee offers numerous opportunities to practice and build upon skills such as:
Plus, the more you work at leadership and management on a one-to-one basis, the more you’ll improve in larger group settings.
Shape the future and & gain personal satisfaction
Sharing your knowledge and expertise is truly rewarding, especially when you get the chance to see the result of your oversight.
Directly contributing to a mentee’s growth and development can also boost your confidence and give you a burst of career-related motivation.
You probably remember a teacher, coach or former boss that inspired you to become the person you are today – now it’s your chance to do that for somebody else.
Gain new perspectives and expand your knowledge
Being a mentor is a great opportunity to learn from your mentee and put your finger on the pulse of a younger generation.
Although you’ll have more industry experience, a mentee will have fresh insights into the latest trends technologies, and practices. New perspectives in business can be hard to come by.

I recognise the need for opportunity and real-life experience if you’re keen to get into the industry. The more advice and support you can get from someone, the more chance you have of actually making it.
My goal at the end of it was to show an agency or a company that was looking for someone in social media and say, I’ve done this-I’ve spoken to a specialist in that area.
