Gander / Stock.Live
One senior engineer, one platform, two surfaces. You will own the systems that ingest a retailer’s inventory and the systems that push it, looking better than they could make it themselves, to every channel a shopper is looking at.

About us
Stock.Live is the inventory layer that sits between a retailer’s data and every digital channel that drives footfall to their store. A retailer connects once; we ingest their full catalogue (including reduced-to-clear, which no competitor handles as part of a wider inventory solution), enrich it with real product content, and distribute it in perfect condition to Google, the Meta loop, AI search, and Stock.Live’s own pages. We hold Google Trusted Local Feed Partner status, an exclusive position per retailer.

Gander is the markdown intelligence engine inside that platform. It handles RTC ingestion, the data console retailers trust to prove the platform works, and the pricing logic that turns reduced-to-clear stock into a managed, optimised proposition.

The two are one platform: shared databases, shared core technology, one data model. We are not hiring two people for two products. We are hiring one strong engineer to own both surfaces of a single system.

The role
This is a senior, hands-on role with real ownership from day one. You will work across the whole platform:

On the Gander side (the engine):

The RTC ingestion pipeline: accept any retailer feed or POS export, ingest the complete catalogue continuously (new lines, price changes, stock movements flowing through without re-upload), with RTC moving through the same pipe as standard stock.
Data display on the Gander console: a tangible, legible view of what was ingested, where it went, and what it did. Restraint over feature count; one honest number beats ten nobody trusts.
The pricing algorithm: the dynamic markdown logic that recommends what to promote, when to boost, and when to pull back, based on stock level, sales pattern, and channel performance.
On the Stock.Live side (the display function):

The distribution layer that takes enriched inventory and renders it consistently across every channel (Google Merchant Centre, the Meta loop, Stock.Live landing pages, and embeddable iFrames), with no degradation between surfaces.
The product content service and match quality that make self-serve safe: a barcode list in, channel-ready imagery and structured product content out, with confidence scoring and GTIN-level caching.
Across both:

The shared core data model and the database both halves read from and write to.
Practical, production-grade reliability, because one broken image or miscategorised product on a live channel is seen by the retailer’s own customers.

What you will work with

  • Front-end: React, building data-dense consoles and consumer-facing pages.
  • Back-end and data: Node services for ingestion pipelines, feed processing, and APIs; continuous (not batch one-shot) data flows.
  • Integrations: Google Merchant Centre (Local Inventory feeds), Meta APIs (Shops, Messenger, catalogue), and POS systems via both API-first connectors (Lightspeed, EPOS Now, Square, Shopify POS) and SFTP fallbacks (Epicor Eagle, Retail Pro, Citrus-Lime). OAuth flows for retailer-driven channel connection.
  • Enrichment: product imagery and data sources (Brandbank, GS1, Barcode Lookup) via a match cascade, plus an LLM classification tier (batch, with caching) for low-confidence items.
  • AI tooling: we expect you to use modern AI development tooling fluently. A small team that ships like a larger one is a deliberate design choice, and the right engineer treats AI as a genuine force multiplier rather than a novelty.

About you
You are a senior generalist who is comfortable owning systems end to end, from the database up to the screen.

You will likely have:

  • Several years building and shipping production software as a full-stack or strong backend engineer.
  • Real experience with data ingestion pipelines, feed processing, or ETL at scale, ideally where data quality and reliability mattered to an external user.
  • Solid React (or comparable modern front-end) experience for building real interfaces, not just toy components.
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and dealing with the messiness of real external data (inconsistent formats, partial feeds, rate limits, auth flows).
  • The judgement to make architectural calls independently and the pragmatism to ship, then improve.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted development as part of how you already work.

Nice to have (not required):

  • Retail, e-commerce, POS, or inventory/feed experience.
  • Hands-on work with Google Merchant Centre, Meta commerce APIs, or product-feed standards (GTIN, GS1).
  • Background in pricing, recommendation, optimisation, or applied ML.
  • Comfort working in a small, fast-moving, early-stage team where you shape how things are built.

How we work
Small team, high autonomy, low ceremony. You will have direct ownership of core systems and a direct line to product decisions; there is no layer of process between you and shipping. The platform is at the stage where the architecture you build now is the architecture the business scales on, so this suits someone who wants that level of responsibility rather than a narrow brief.
