In the vodcast, Charlie discusses why creating visible STEM pathways is essential to helping young people understand the opportunities available across Jersey’s growing digital sector.
While STEM is often associated with science and mathematics in the classroom, Charlie explains that it develops much broader skills, including problem-solving, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. These are capabilities that are becoming increasingly valuable across every industry, particularly as AI continues to reshape the world of work.

Charlie also highlights the importance of challenging outdated perceptions around career choices and showing young people that there are many different routes into rewarding digital careers, whether that’s joining an established business, launching a startup or developing skills that can be applied across multiple sectors.
A key part of Digital Jersey’s work is creating clear pathways from education into employment. Through initiatives including the STEM Career Pathway, STEM Racing, Youth Hackathon, Code in Place, Project Trident work experience and the Digital Tribe Quiz, we’re helping young people explore their strengths, develop practical skills and connect with opportunities in Jersey’s digital economy.
