It’s International Women’s Day on Wednesday March 8th, to celebrate the occasion and to try to help improve the gender imbalance in the digital industry, Women in Tech is holding a career info evening for girls and women interested in the sector.
Just 15% of the Jersey digital workforce are female, globally the figure is 25%. When you look at software developer roles the numbers are even smaller – just 4% globally and too small to measure in Jersey. This is despite the fact the first computer programmers were women and it is well recognised that gender balanced teams far out-perform those which are single gender.
Six women who are already working in Jersey’s digital sector will be on hand on March 8th, to talk about how they got into the industry, what their job is like and give advice to any other women or girls thinking about a digital career.
The event starts at 5.30pm with some networking, before a series of five to ten minute informal talks from each of the Women in Tech members. Then there will be the opportunity to have a one-on-one discussion to talk through your own career options and get personal advice.
