Michael Butler, a Jersey-based founder and former Digital Jersey Startup Bootcamp participant, features this week on Sub Club, the podcast run by RevenueCat, the subscription platform that powers in-app purchases for tens of thousands of apps including ChatGPT.
Michael is the founder of Insert Affiliate, a tool that lets mobile app companies run their own affiliate and referral programmes. It tracks which creator, partner or customer referred each paying subscriber, and handles the payouts, for apps built on iOS and Android.
He built the product in the evenings while working full time, and grew it from Jersey.
“I came through the Digital Jersey bootcamp for another startup, learning and pivoting from the experience and kept building out ideas after it finished, and this is where it led,” said Michael.
“Being asked onto RevenueCat’s podcast is an exciting moment for something that started as an evening project on the island.”
RevenueCat is one of the most widely used pieces of infrastructure in the subscription app world, and Sub Club is its podcast for app founders and developers.

Michael now wants to work with other app developers in Jersey. He is offering local developers coupons for periods of free use of Insert Affiliate to try it on their own apps.
“There is real app-building talent on this island, working quietly away,” said Butler.
“I would like to find the people working on subscription apps here and let them use Insert Affiliate for free, so we can figure out what works together.”
