Jersey's Tech Response to COVID-19 Captured in New Film

Posted: Friday 29 May 2020

Jersey’s digital and tech industries have been working tirelessly to respond to problems created during the coronavirus pandemic and we’re delighted to showcase these tech projects and solutions in our latest video.

The film, produced by Digital Jersey, is designed to shine a light on the work of the many businesses across the island that have quickly changed and adapted to meet the needs of others.

It includes education initiatives, working from home support, getting the States Assembly online – making it the first Commonwealth parliament to sit virtually, and the COVID-19 Challenge – a Dragons’ Den-style event to award funding for new projects designed to solve challenges created by coronavirus.

Digital Jersey CEO Tony Moretta said: “In recent weeks I’ve heard a number of people say we’ll look back on this time and ask the question ‘What did we do during the Covid-19 crisis?’. Well I’m pleased to be able to say how proud I am both of the work of my team at Digital Jersey but also of the response of the sector we represent and promote.”

“This video helps bring that work to life. I hope it’ll inspire others to find new ways to support our whole community in the coming weeks and months.”

Mr Moretta, who’s currently on secondment to Government as Programme Director for Covid-19 testing and tracing, hopes it’ll help remind all islanders of the ways in which technology is helping.

He added: “Our technology sector has also shown in their response what a digital island we are and how that can support every facet of life and industry on our resilient island.”

“Our telecoms sector kept us working, schooled and entertained with speeds unrivalled around the world, our IT companies kept our finance industry, the powerhouse of our economy, working remotely here and across the world, and our tech entrepreneurs even helped shops and restaurants get online quickly and easily so we could continue to support them in their hour of need.”

Digital Jersey would love to here from you on how else we can continue to support our local community digitally during these unprecedented times – Please email us here with your suggestions.
