A financial writer, technology advocate and acclaimed comedian, described as ‘viciously funny and inventive’ is to host the inaugural Jersey TechAwards.

Dominic Frisby’s talents are vast and wide-ranging, spanning writing, acting, comedy and much more besides. But, fresh from performing at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe with his high-octane and sell-out financial game show, it’s his passion for technology which sparked his interest in coming to Jersey.

He said: ‘I like Jersey. I like tech. I like hosting events. It was a no-brainer. Tech transforms the world. It always has and it always will. In recent years, thanks largely to the internet and all things related, tech has been an empowering liberating force for millions, creating countless opportunities for people. Over the next 20 years the opportunities tech will bring to the global population that is currently unbanked will be transform lives for the better. We are in the midst of an era of extraordinary improvement. There have been Agricultural and Industrial Revolutions. We are in the middle of a Technological Revolution that is going to become a Financial Revolution.’

The Jersey TechAwards on Thursday 18 October are being organised by Digital Jersey in collaboration with BCS Jersey and headline sponsored by Prosperity 24/7. The Awards will celebrate individuals and businesses in the Island who are doing great things in the sector.

Dominic is no stranger to Jersey and is looking forward to his next visit.

“I’ve been many times. I visited on holiday as a kid. I’ve also done gigs in the Island. It’s a great place. Jersey’s main industry used to be farming but the Island has transformed itself into a financial centre. If it wants to remain a world leader, it has to embrace FinTech and lead the sector.”

Digital Jersey CEO Tony Moretta said: ‘In a venn diagram of speakers who are finance writers, fintech enthusiasts and stand-up comedians there is only one man, and I am delighted we have secured Dominic for our awards. He’s a brilliantly funny and engaging performer, he knows his

subject inside out, and he’s fast becoming a global ambassador for the whole tech sector. My advice to anyone in either the finance or tech sectors – don’t miss out!’
