Welcoming the Next Generation of Tech professionals through the IoD Future Leaders Scheme

Posted: 11/03/2026

Last summer, the team at Digital Jersey welcomed Izzy to the team as part of the IoD Jersey Future Leaders Scheme. It was such a positive and rewarding week that we are keen to share our experience with the aim of encouraging more digital and tech businesses to take part in 2026.

Izzy jumped straight into the heart of our organisation’s objectives – shadowing the team to dive deep into our membership programme, STEM racing initiative and the content strategy behind the 7th Annual TechAwards. From exploring our collaborative workspaces to developing guidelines for the podcast studio – we were able to cover a broad range of projects and initiatives. Izzy had a particular interest in digital creative and media so we were delighted to introduce her to our member Slingshot whilst they were busy filming for the 7th Annual TechAwards.

Izzy was so hardworking, curious and used so much initiative – it was a pleasure to have her as part of our team. We have no doubt her career journey will be one to watch, and we look forward to staying in touch!

Izzy said: “My experience at Digital Jersey last summer was invaluable in shaping my future, enhancing my independence and exposing me to the reality of working life. I was lucky enough to work alongside such a flexible, supportive team that gave me the chance to shape my week into something that benefitted me greatly. It was extremely different to any work experience I’d done before through the fact I was treated like a working professional. It’s so rare that students my age get the chance to work with professionals so high within their industry, which makes the Future Leaders Shadowing scheme completely unique. I was able to offer a fresh insight on current projects; for example, constructing a sample webpage to connect students with Jersey’s digital innovation. The experience has certainly guided my University choices, and enhanced my confidence in my own abilities, all thanks to Digital Jersey’s hospitality.”

One of the best things about Jersey is our close-knit business community. By offering someone a placement in the IoD Future Leaders Scheme, you are giving someone a stepping stone and opening doors to a network, potential internship opportunities and of course some experience they can use for their CV or UCAS personal statement.

There are so many reasons you should take part:

  • It’s a flexible programme, with placements of 3-5 days
  • The process for signing up is very simple
  • Students can shadow a senior manager, Director or a combination of your team across different functions
  • You will learn a lot from it and you never know the impact the placement will have

Welcoming Izzy was a significant “full circle” moment for me. Many years ago, I shadowed Jerry Ramsden at the Jersey Evening Post, an experience that proved invaluable. It provided the foundation that eventually led me to roles at Reuters, The Financial Times, and The Guardian. I remain incredibly grateful to Jerry and Corrine for making that introduction to the professional world so memorable and impactful. I genuinely don’t think I would have had the same career path without this experience.

Following visits to all six of Jersey’s secondary schools, The IoD are currently looking for 16 digital/tech placements, so volunteering your time and providing one invaluable opportunity can make a huge difference.
