One hundred days after arriving in his new role as CEO of Digital Jersey, Tony Moretta has published the 2016 Business Plan, which includes significant changes to how the organisation is run. The plan was announced at the Digital Jersey Christmas Drinks on Tuesday 15th December.

The most notable changes include separating the work of Digital Jersey as an Industry Association from that of The Hub, which will be run in partnership with the local tech community.

Focus

Underpinning the Industry Association work is a piece of independent research, commissioned from KPMG, which identifies the fastest most promising opportunities for Jersey to develop a digital sector.

Their recommendations highlight several areas of focus:

  • Fintech;
  • MedTech / eHealth;
  • Jersey as a testbed for new technologies, e.g. the Internet of Things;
  • Cyber-security, blockchain, intellectual property and data services have also been highlighted as major considerations for Jersey

Industry Support

The Industry Association will also champion industry viewpoints, and support corporate members with their own promotion and business development, establishing member-working groups to develop the key opportunities and support the development of the right environment critical to the success of technology businesses.

The Digital Jersey Hub will continue to be the centre of education and skills initiatives, supporting digital innovation and entrepreneurship in Jersey under a new Hub Manager.

Collaboration

Digital Jersey will increase efforts to work with other agencies and partners, both on and off-island, alongside government, to deliver substantive and measurable benefits to the Jersey economy and community. Other local organisations such as Jersey Finance, Jersey Business and the Jersey Library have taken the unprecedented step of signing up to support the plan as partners, to emphasise their commitment to embracing a digital future for Jersey.

Our CEO, Tony Moretta said: “If we are to diversify our economy and grow a digital sector that makes a meaningful contribution to our island’s economy we need to work together to get some key technology projects delivered to put us on the global map.  We can’t compete on size but we can compete on quality, by using our world-class knowledge and reputation in areas like financial services and regulation, and our fantastic opportunity to provide a testbed for new technologies in areas like healthcare."

“I am delighted that the Assistant Chief Minister Senator Philip Ozouf has chosen this time to announce his plans for a Digital Policy Framework, which will be created in the New Year to drive this digital agenda for the whole island.  We look forward to working on this with him and thank him for his support.”
