This year’s Jersey Skills Show will, for the first time, have a dedicated digital section where you can see fifteen companies showcasing the wide variety of careers in this dynamic industry. The event takes place on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th October.
Jersey has a digital skills gap, but this is not just our issue – it’s global. The European Union estimates there will be 500,000 unfilled vacancies for ICT professionals by 2020. It means that there are lots of opportunities and it’s no surprise that our industry and employment in the digital sector has grown 20% since 2013 and that pace of growth is increasing.
When we talk digital skills we are not just meaning coders or computer programmers, the digital industry is as varied as it is dynamic. There really is a role for everyone, whether you are artistic, wordy or numbers oriented, male, female, school leaver or job changer.
You don’t have to be Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, you don’t need to have the exact skills to match a role, what you do need is a willingness to learn and an enthusiasm to take your place in the exciting and dynamic digital industry.
