Sure customers will be able to enjoy using Sure’s new 4G superfast mobile broadband network following the start of work to roll-out the new network across the island. The network will give customers much faster data download speeds and will offer a far better experience when downloading videos or using maps and social media.

Yesterday, Sure began to bring the first 4G masts online after months of planning and preliminary works to ensure a swift and smooth islandwide roll-out. Work will begin in the densely populated south-east of the island before moving into other areas.

As well as building a new 4G network, Sure is also installing new 2G and 3G networks so all Sure customers will benefit from the investment regardless of whether or not they have a 4G compatible handset.

"In terms of both time and money, we have made a significant investment in 4G because we want our customers to enjoy using the best network in the island," said Graham Hughes, CEO of Sure in Jersey. "We are scheduled to finish the works in about four weeks, by which time our customers will be able to enjoy using 4G throughout the island.

"During the period of these works, our customers may experience some disruption to their services. I would like to apologise for this in advance and ask for our customers’ patience whilst the work progresses. I am sure they will feel the minor disruption was worthwhile once they experience our new network.

"To make it easy for our customers to understand where and when network disruption is likely to take place, we will be updating our website and social media channels on a daily basis with information about the works in progress."

Sure customers who are looking forward to using the new 4G mobile broadband service may need to configure their handsets before they can receive a 4G signal. To make this easy, we have included step-by-step instructions on our website showing how to set up the different handsets that our customers use.
