According to the World Health Organization, around one in six people globally experience loneliness, with adolescents and young adults among the most affected. Loneliness and social isolation are now recognised as major global public health issues because of their impact on mental health, physical health and the wellbeing of communities.
Two Jersey entrepreneurs believe the conversation should not only be about how much time we spend online. It should be about whether we are creating places where people truly belong.
Think about the last time you truly felt you belonged.
Perhaps it was around a family table, in your local community, at a sports club, at work, or with friends who knew your name, noticed when you were missing and genuinely cared how you were doing.
That feeling, the experience of belonging, is something Jersey entrepreneurs Claire Boscq and Andy Jarvis believe technology should help restore, not replace.
After spending decades helping organisations improve Customer eXperience, Digital eXperience and human connection, the pair have launched HX | Hive eXperience, a trusted Village Without Walls where communities can create meaningful relationships, share knowledge and create opportunities together.
Rather than building another social network, HX gives organisations, charities, associations, businesses and interest groups their own trusted online home, bringing together conversations, events, learning, local businesses and community life in one place.
Claire Boscq said:
“For more than twenty years I’ve helped organisations improve Customer eXperience because experiences shape how people feel. Today, I believe our greatest challenge is no longer simply Customer eXperience. It’s Human eXperience.
Somewhere along the way we stopped building communities and started building audiences. We’ve spent years measuring engagement, but perhaps we should have been measuring belonging. Every community already holds incredible gold: knowledge, kindness, businesses, mentors, opportunities and people who genuinely care. Our mission is to improve the Human eXperience of belonging by helping communities unlock the gold they already hold.
We were never meant to become the product. We were meant to belong.”
Co-founder Andy Jarvis added:
“Technology should quietly enable relationships rather than compete for attention. We haven’t built another social network. We’ve built trusted digital infrastructure that gives communities ownership of their own online home.
When technology becomes simpler, safer and more purposeful, people can focus on what really matters: building relationships, sharing knowledge and creating opportunities together.”
Although created in Jersey, HX has been built with a global vision. Community leaders from South Africa, the UK and beyond will join the official launch, both online and in person, on Saturday 8th August.
Claire and Andy hope HX will spark a wider conversation about how technology can help repair the heart of communities by improving the Human eXperience of belonging.
