In response to today's announcement regarding the Court Decision to delay landline competition in the Island, Paul Masterton, Executive Chair of Digital Jersey Limited commented:

“Digital Jersey believes that healthy telecoms competition in the island is essential for successful growth of the digital sector.  We strongly support and endorse all efforts to move towards this, whether driven by existing or new service providers, the regulator or by the industry we represent.

We also recognise that circumstances in Jersey do not enable the development of the same type of competition, as is seen in larger jurisdictions with greater scale.  It is therefore vital that the Regulator and the States of Jersey play an active role in creating a telecommunications environment fit for growth in the digital sector.

Following today’s announcement, we would strongly urge that a new timeframe be quickly established to implement the changes that CICRA has defined, alongside concerted actions from the States of Jersey and the telecoms companies to achieve a competitively priced infrastructure.”
