Jersey student to get out of this world experience

Posted: 02/10/2018

One Jersey student will win an out-of-this-world virtual reality experience at this year’s Jersey TechAwards.

The prize – a Beat Saber VR experience with two friends or family members – will go to the winner in the Technology Student of the Year category.

There are just two weeks for students to nominate themselves, or for others to nominate them, ahead of the awards night in October as part of Jersey TechWeek. The inaugural Jersey TechAwards will celebrate achievements right across the Island’s digital sector.

The winner will head to Virtex Studios, the leading virtual and augmented reality provider in the Channel Islands, where experts from Snap Design & Digital will be on hand to make sure their VR experience is one to remember. The winner will also receive a video of their day.

Tom Le Sueur from Snap.je said: ‘We wanted to do our bit to support an innovative and exciting way to encourage as many students as possible to nominate themselves at the Jersey TechAwards. Having tried it for myself, I know the winner will love Beat Saber which sees players donning virtual sabers for a game that’s a mash up between Guitar Hero and Fruit Ninja. Now that’s a prize!’

Tony Moretta from Digital Jersey said: ‘We keep banging the drum for digital skills in this Island and celebrating student successes should be at the heart of the Jersey TechAwards. In schools, colleges, clubs, and homes, there’s a tremendous amount of work being done by students – our workforce of tomorrow.’

The closing date for nominations is Thursday 4 October 2018. Nominations can be made here.
