The charity corporate cycling challenge is back! Expect corporate rivalry, grudge matches and cheer squads as businesses come together to raise funds for local causes.

On Friday 22nd of July Jersey will celebrate Prosperity Day. The fundraising day, invented by technology business Prosperity 24.7, combines a highly competitive static bike race with fundraising for great causes. This year it will raise funds for two pioneering charities ‘Caring Cooks of Jersey’ and ‘Wetwheels Jersey’.

Fifteen of the Channel Island’s top corporate firms will go ‘Head to Head to Head’ in a virtual race on state of the art, BKOOL turbo trainers. The 30-minute, three-way races will be running throughout the day, transporting Jersey’s very own Broad Street to the Col du Tourmalet of the Tour de France. There are only two team spots still up for grabs and local companies are encouraged to get in touch with the organisers urgently to secure their place.
The races are comprised of 30 minute heats, whereby participants will not only be competing against their neighbours to cover the greatest distance, but for a position on the overall leaderboard. The top three teams who get the furthest up the ‘virtual mountain’, enter their best cyclist into a final 10-minute virtual velodrome race to determine the overall race winner.

Points from the race will only contribute to half of the score collected by the teams. The remaining points are determined by a fundraising leaderboard to encourage the community benefit for the chosen Prosperity Day charities.

The inaugural Prosperity Day took place in 2015 and saw Bedell Group pedal to victory. Aztec Group and First Names Group followed in second and third place respectively.  Over £17,000 was raised in 2015 for local charities and organisers hope to break that record.

This year, Fort Regent will even be lit up in Prosperity 24.7 orange for the evening to highlight the great fundraising feat and encourage people to continue to donate to the two local charities.

Chris Clark, event organiser and CEO of Prosperity 24.7, said:

‘We said we would come back bigger and better this year and we fully intend to smash expectations and fundraising targets! We are thrilled that so many teams have returned to vent their fury on the bikes. It’s going to be an exciting day of rivalry, sportsmanship, competition and fundraising.

This year we have chosen to support two charities. Caring Cooks of Jersey is a fantastic enterprise that champions nutrition and cookery skills for families and those suffering times of hardship. Wetwheels Jersey is a charity that provides maritime experiences for disabled and disadvantaged people in Jersey. Both do wonderful work with people from all sectors of our community and we will be championing their causes on ‘Prosperity Day’.

We would like to once more thank Big Maggy’s for the loan of bikes and BKOOL for delivering such incredibly technology.  A huge thanks also goes to JT who are providing the all essential Wi-Fi on the day. Barannes and Race Nation also need to be thanked for their refreshments and fund raising platform respectively.’
