On Thursday 16 July Digital Jersey’s Hub hosted its first M2M Lunch ‘n Learn event. In response to member suggestions, the line-up of speakers featured a range of topics of interest to both start-ups and SME’s.

20 members registered to attend the 3 hour event. The informal format enabled members to selectively attend the sessions that was of particular interest to them and also included a networking lunch.

Feedback from attendees has been very positive and the format proved to be a success. The unanimous constructive feedback is to reduce the event to a maximum of 2 hours and focus on 4 topics.

The line-up of speakers were:

Sol Thacker of Accountable on the Xero Accounting System:
Sol’s presentation clearly demonstrated the wisdom of all businesses, no matter how small, investing in an accounting package sooner rather than later and gave members a good insight into what to look out for when assessing the capabilities of an accounting system.

Matt Chatterley of Codentia Ltd on WordPress for your website:
Matt’s presentation gave a number of compelling reasons why members should disregard the snobbery surrounding WordPress as a business website hosting platform which is proving itself to be much more than the world’s number 1 blogging platform.

Andrew Pinel of Pinel Advocates spoke compellingly on the value that good and timely legal advice can offer a business throughout its lifecycle.

Katherine Salt of MarketingMy.co.uk entertained us through a host of tips for optimising an individual’s or business’s social media presence and profile.

Ceri Maltwood of HR Now used real life lawsuits to illustrate the subtleties and breadth of the new discrimination regulations.

Membership Services is planning to continue to host more events in The Hub as a valuable part of Digital Jersey’s ongoing drive to offer members more value:

“Starting and growing a business can be an isolating experience, especially in the digital world where so much interaction is done online. The Hub is an ideal location to help digital entrepreneurs become part of a community of likeminded people and businesses."

Digital Jersey is grateful to the five participating business members who enabled us to host a diverse and very relevant agenda for our first M2M lunch ’n learn event.
