Posted: 17/07/2018

The best of Jersey’s growing digital industry will be celebrated at a major new awards ceremony later this year – Jersey TechAwards.

Nominations are now being sought across a range of categories for the inaugural Jersey TechAwards, organised by Digital Jersey, in association with the Jersey section of BCS, (the international section of the Chartered Institute for IT).

The ten categories as part of Jersey TechAwards feature  digital company of the year, digital start-up, digital leader, and best use of technology in education, among others.

Tony Moretta, CEO of Digital Jersey, said: ‘we know from daily experience that there’s such a breadth and range of digital talent in Jersey. We’ve now reached a point where the time has come to celebrate that fact and to shout about our successes. I want Jersey TechAwards to be a focus for the hard work, innovation and disruptive use of technology that our digital sector is leading the way on. The work that’s being done in Jersey is increasingly being noticed around the world.’

The Jersey TechAwards are sponsored by Prosperity 24/7 and will take place on Thursday 18th October.

The full list of categories is:

  • Digital company of the year
  • Best use of technology in education
  • Technology project of the year
  • Technology student of the year
  • Technology teacher of the year
  • Digital start-up of the year
  • Digital creative project of the year
  • Digital growth business of the year
  • Digital leader of the year

David Cartwright from BCS Jersey said “We at the BCS believe it’s hugely important to recognise the contribution that technology makes in Jersey. We should reward exceptional contributors to our industry – not just those who are using technology but also those who are inventing it and teaching it – and as we do so we can show the world just how technologically exciting Jersey has become. This is the inaugural year for the Jersey Tech Awards, but it’s designed not to be a one-off event: I’d like it to become a regular fixture in our calendars for years to come”.

Chris Clark, CEO of Prosperity 24/7, said: ‘As an industry, IT businesses often struggle to achieve broader recognition for the exceptional work they deliver for International clients due to non-disclosure clauses etc. this hampers the ability to share innovation in RegTech or FinTech for example. By supporting these awards we are hoping that businesses who benefit from digital transformation will stand up and stand proud, sharing the limelight with their local IT Industry partners who deliver world leading client experiences and innovation every day, to help other Industries to be more competitive around the Globe which helps Jersey to maintain its position as an International centre of excellence. We are particularly pleased to be able to recognise the work being done through education and the Island’s future digital workforce who help to create the digital ecosystem which is essential for Jersey’s future prosperity.’

Jersey TechAwards will mark the culmination of Jersey TechWeek which will showcase key aspects of the digital sector with a coding hackathon, keynote convention speakers focusing on the Internet of Things, Digital Health, and Fintech, as well as the launch of Jersey’s first Internet of Things hub: DJX.
