JT short-listed for three awards at national digital awards

Posted: 17/05/2018

JT has been short-listed for three of the nine prestigious awards on offer at the 2018 Connected Britain Awards.

Connected Britain is an annual conference and the premier meeting place for the UK’s main stakeholders to come together and discuss, learn and collaborate on the UK’s digital future.

The conference, which will be held in London on 19-20 June, hosts leading names from the digital sector, including national and local government, global telecoms operators, regulators and investors.
The associated Connected Britain Awards have short-listed JT in the Fibre Connectivity, Superfast and IoT award categories alongside national and global brands and operators. The first two relate to JT’s full-fibre network in Jersey, which is more prominent than ever given this year as Jersey will become the world’s first full-fibre island, with each household and business directly connected to JT’s full-fibre; a huge digital accolade for Jersey as an island placing it well ahead of the UK and many places in the world.

The IoT shortlisting recognises JT’s success in connecting devices that communicate automatically within the ‘Internet of Things’. JT SIMs now power more than 1,600,000 devices worldwide, taking advantage of JT’s 750 roaming agreements with other mobile network operators, offering an innovative and resilient service.

JT Chief Executive Officer Graeme Millar said: “We’re clearly delighted to be nominated for these prestigious national awards. With almost 40,000 homes and businesses on the full-fibre network, Jersey will soon be the first jurisdiction in the world to have 100 per cent of broadband premises connected directly to full-fibre. We’re immensely proud of that achievement and it is testament to the effort and ambition of all our stakeholders, the support of our business and residential customers, the fantastic team at JT, our suppliers, and the States of Jersey.

“Our work in the IoT space is also ground-breaking and I’m humbled that Connected Britain have also recognised our innovation in this growing space, which brings economic prosperity back to our islands.
